During MFW SS 25 I had the pleasure to attend the launch party of the book NERO by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
NERO by Dolce & Gabbana
Black, the most powerful and overwhelming colour, is the symbol of Dolce&Gabbana and encapsulates opposite feelings that attract: sensuality and rigour, tragedy and love. On a September evening, many guests gathered in the Dolce & Gabbana Casa at Corso Venezia 7 in order to celebrate the most exciting book by D&G: NERO. It’s a large format book, printed entirely in black and white. It shows the contrast between masters who portrayed Sicily since 1950 and presented next to best photographs with Dolce&Gabbana campaign since the 1980s. It includes works by photographers like Sergio Larrain, Bruno Barbey, Ellen von Unwerth, Gian Paolo Barbieri, Mert&Marcus, Helmut Newton, Peter Lindberg, Paolo Roversi, and Giuseppe Tornatore.
In these photographic masterpieces, which range from advertising campaigns to the most iconic editorials and shots never before seen by the general public, published here for the first time, the stars of cinema, entertainment, and the fashion system – featuring Monica Bellucci, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, and Madonna among others – will alternate with suggestive portraits of ordinary people, in a constant dialogue that puts Dolce&Gabbana Black at the centre.
The NERO EVENT
All Dolce & Gabbana events are always wonderful. This time it was also the case. Sadly the founders of the brand and authors of the NERO book were not present, but still, the place was filled with beautiful people. With a strong focus on Dolce & Gabbana models, who have a photoshoot during the event. The book was displayed all over the ground floor or Dolce & Gabbana Casa and it’s now available for purchase there and online.
About The Authors of NERO.
Domenico Dolce, born in Sicily, near Palermo, in 1958, started to work with his father in the family clothing business while studying fashion design. Stefano Gabbana, born in Milan in 1962, began to work in various fashion studios with a graphic design background. They met when Stefano Gabbana phoned the tailor’s workshop where Domenico Dolce was working; they became life companions and founded the Dolce&Gabbana company. Their debut dates back to October 1985, when the designers successfully presented their first collection. Since then, Dolce&Gabbana has experienced a constant, unstoppable ascendancy.
